I was already well up this alternate route before I came upon a Pemex station, where the attendant conveyed to me that there are many banditos along this road at night. You can only imagine how comforting this was, especially with the sun well on its way down. I decided to ride to the next town with a decent hotel. I rode through lots of town like this one, but none of them looked inviting and even fewer had a hotel.
